David Williams - Little Prayers of Belief
Little Prayers of Belief

I don’t love you cause you’re good

I don’t love you cause I should

I don’t love you cause it’s easy to do

There’s poetry in you.

I don’t want your love

hand-outs I’m not speaking of

your slant rhyme thoughts in my head

raise the weary and the dead

All I got for relief

Little prayers of belief

Little hopes, held by hand

walking out of no man’s land

forever’s not what it seems

We only come to dream.

Not to live in the promised land,

Lucky enough, for this—while we can.
