Another Song about Alice for Thanksgiving
“Another Song About Alice” just released for Thanksgiving (for those who remember Alice’s Restaurant)
Alice Brock, forever associated with Thanksgiving because of Arlo Guthrie’s song “Alice’s Restaurant,” has been located in Provincetown, Mass where she has a gallery to display her whimsical artwork including beach stones which she decorates with drawings of cats and women. She used to drop off a few painted stones on the beach to surprise the tourists but nowadays she sells them on her website.
Folks who remember the story of Alice’s Restaurant will appreciate the irony that Alice was recently having trouble when she had a lot of trash to dump as she prepares to move to new digs on the Cape. Alice wrote “I never thought throwing stuff out could hit so many road blocks…Most dumps won't take wood, $25.00 per air conditioner, no metal, closed on Monday, street closed, rain......ARrrrgg!”
Songwriter Brian Blain has spent a lot of time on the Cape over the last few years and wrote a song about what Alice Brock is up to nowadays. It’s called “Another Song About Alice” and you can hear it on Alice’s website or on New Folk Blues 2.0 available on iTunes, CDbaby and elsewhere
