Torches
10. TORCHES

Without a doubt, James Taylor is one of the top singer/songwriters of all time. It would be hard to find two bigger fans than Steve and I, and we definitely had James in mind when we came up with this one.

Leg of lamb, Cabernet, soft jazz, what can you say?
Everything in its place, big smile on your face
It all seems right, but somehow it’s all wrong
Tugging on my sleeve, I just don’t belong

When you see the future, I see yesterday
When you say I’ll do whatever, I hear no way
When you feel like giving , I can’t give anymore
When you think forever, I think what for?

Mark it down to lessons learned
When I carry torches I always get burned

So sweet, so kind, right girl, wrong time
All my friends say let it go, If you don’t try, you’ll never know
But I’ve been down that road before
And I can’t go there anymore

When you’re making plans, I’m making believe
When you’re thinking stay, I’m thinking leave
When you’re thinking love, I’m thinking friends
When you say it’s real, I just pretend
Mark it down to lessons learned
When I carry torches I always get burned

You can’t take chances where love’s concerned
When I carry torches I always get burned
