The Letter
THE LETTER
Torn letters in my head, two lovers on the brink
So I’ll write one down instead and pour myself a drink
And step outside and smoke another memory of you
Keep tellin’ myself there’s no way we are through
I hope the letter finds you where you are
I hope the letter can mend your broken heart
I hope the letter is filled with all the words I never said to your face or in my songs
I hope the letter brings you home
Wiping fog from the window pane, reminds me of another night
When the fog wasn’t from the rain and I held you so tight
It was so easy in the back of my mom’s Chevrolet
And three simple words were all that I had to say
All those nights upon the stage selling our souls for minimum wage
Writing songs of what lovers do, never lifting a pen for you
